Just a country girl kicking around the dirt roads taking pictures of trees, gates, animals. cactus, and anything else that strikes my un-fancy mind. You are welcome to take a look and come back if you like.

Tankin' Up
We went out late this afternoon to feed the cattle. They were "tankin' up" on cover. Mama used to use that expression when someone was eating to excess on one thing. The picture is an older one, the clover is not that high and not that thick. That may be a good thing as when they eat too much clover or tank up on it they can bloat and if something isn't done they can die. I was surprised when John told me he sticks a pin in them to let the air out. I thought he was kidding me. It doesn't seem to hurt them and it could save their life. Oh and that is not clover in the picture either but it is some of John's cattle. The one in the center with the long horns is part Watusi. He no longer has it.

He seriously sticks them with a pin? How interesting is that!
colic is very dangerous for large animals, but i've never heard of a pin!
I have heard of animals eating too much. In fact, we had a horse that did, but the vet saved him with no ongoing problems.
John's cattle looks good. The calves are pretty too.
I remember my dad 'deflating' a cow one time. He too said that it ate too much of a good thing. Love the longhorns, my brother used to have a few.
'hugs from afar'
I could have really used a pin stuck in me from time to time -- especially after pizza or bbq.
It really works to stick a pin in them?
Missy
Sadly I watched a vet once try to deflate a horse, but could not. Very sad time.
But As long as one knows how and in time, that works I hear.
But I had to think of some song or dance, the Watusi!!!
Love the cow picture. My header picture did not show this time. Sometimes this system drives me to the WALL (soemtimes up it).
I may have tanked up in the past on cheesecake.
Hanging head in shame.
But I don't eat that now :-).
stick a fork in me
I'm done
I remember my brothers and dad speaking of sticking a bloated animal. Since I was still pretty young I had visions of them going out with mom's butcher knife. I never rally wanted to know so never asked. Have a great Thanksgiving, wherever you are.
I've probably needed that pin treatment several times...specially around this time of year! Hope you have great holidays, Paula...don't over eat!
Well I "tank up" occasionally, but so far no one has stuck a pin in me to let the air out! lol
