Attention To Our Kids

If we come up missing we are on a gravel country road in south Texas somewere. Somewhere. but we don't know where because we are looking at windmills, wildflowers, and longhorn cattle with the longest horns you have ever seen. Actually I am trying to figure out how to scale this high high fence so that I can pet this unusual animal. It looks sad. This morning it was sooo foggy I didn't want to go to the ranch and fight the oil field trucks. John promised we would go a country road where there is hardly any traffic. It was the truth, I think we met one car. We saw this odd animal inside the high fence of a large ranch. The fog was so bad we could hardly see anything else. It was about the size of a hog. It was brown and reminded me of a giant mole or gopher but when it turned it reminded me of a rabbit face. we talked about it so much we decided to go back this afternoon and have another look when all the fog had lifted. Lo and behold there was nine of them and there was a very large pond that they were all near. Now we are thinking they may be some sort of water animal, maybe beaver. I talked to them and ask them to come close to me. They didn't, but they didn't run away either. As we drove on we saw a sign that it is a wildlife ranch so they may be from some other country. Boy! It was all good today.

Getting away from traffic sounds wonderful. We have lived on a State Highway for the past 32 yrs, come June, and I have never gotten used to it even with a grove of large pine and spruce between us. Traffic, I hate even more than one vehicle flying by. You had the right idea to get away from it all.
As for the creature you describe, Mel would probably know. Her Slim knows his wildlife creatures. Just don't try to pet anything you don't know...some of those friendly faces have a nasty bite and could be rabid. Hope it didn't have stripes like a skunk or a badger. Nasty!!!
Stay safe. Post a picture.

I hope if you see them again you can get a picture. I want guess, lol. I like to get out and ride the back roads we haven't done it in a long time most of the roads are paved some that hasn't been repave in 30 years. That’s what I call bad roads. Ha. Take care. Jean

Paula, you are an adventurer! What a wonderful day you and John must have had. I am glad you found your way back home. Let us know what you found out there, once you get it figured out. I am beginning to believe the old saying, Everything is bigger? Better? ...whatever it is, it must be! ...in Texas.
We will be going through Texas in a couple of weeks and I am hoping to see Texas wild flowers.

I love the back roads too, Paula...I'm old and tired and back roads and back country are a lot more peaceful than those highways. Plus you get to see the sights.
