This May Be Payback

I've spent tonight gathering my glasses, the magnifing glass, a bright lamp, and the tweezers. You can't see the tiny blonde stickers on one type of cactus. Rub on some hand lotion or write with a pen then you can feel the pain. They are so elusive you must hold your finger at just the right angle under the light as trying to manipulate the magnifing glass. I think it was payback to me for disposing of some of that cactus in a small garbage can since my large one was full of small Redbud limbs. After the garbage truck had passed I found the large one empty and the small one on it's side with the cactus sitll in it. The metal can looked as if someone had hit it with a hammer. I have visions of the garbage man having to jump out of the truck to hand empty the smaller can and put his hand right onto the cactus. I'm so sorry Mr. Garbage Man. I will always dispose of cactus in the large can where the machine on the truck picks the can up and empties it into the truck. I wish I could pick those stickers out of your hand because I think I've finished with mine. I love my little cactus garden but it grows onto my neighbor's yard so I have to tend it. Am I weird or what? I always wanted to make a "Here Lies A cowboy" cactus garden with a grave, cross, cowboy boots, and hat along with the cactus. Instead I just have Digers that have grown over my head, cactus plants to my shoulders, iron wheel, iron horseshoe on a stand and an artificial wild rabbit.

Fortunately, I've never yet had to extract cactus stickers (but I'm sure my time will come).
I think it would be cute to have a cowboy grave in your cactus garden - - -
just don't put my name on it!

OUCH. That must hurt, for sure. Hope you got rid of them all. As for the cowboy graveyard... a girl can dream. I once put a fake pair of feet with stunning shoes, sticking out from under a cupola that was sitting in our backyard. Looked like the thing fell on somebody. Sort of like the Wizard of Oz. Nobody here saw the humor in it. But it delighted me every time I saw it. Take care.

Those sounds miserable! I'm so sorry. On the other hand, I love the idea of your cowboy garden.

Is it unusual for a Texan to get cactus needles? Us foreigners get them, I did once, fortunately not the small ones, some large enough to see.

But lately I have done the same with magnifying glass for very small splinters. I could feel but not see.

My mama and brother loved cactus, and always kept some.

I hope the garbage man did not get into it also, but that is the hazards of the job, and at least he has one. But I also know how you feel, you hate to think that you are responsible for some one's misery. YOu are sweet that way!!!

Stickers or splinters are no fun...hope you got all of them out now. Poor garbage fella, maybe he had on gloves and was spared a sticker. Hope you get that 'cowboy garden' one day. Take care, Sheila

What I do for splinters or slivers of glass is, coat the place with Elmers glue and let it dry. When dry pull the glue off. The stickers should come out with it. Hope that hint will do the trick next time. Bet you or John have some on hand now.

I feel badly for you and also for the Garbageman. I'll bet you're right ... he probably stuck his hand right into the can. Oh well, maybe at some point he'll stick his hand in a Garbage Can and pull out a treasure so priceless they'll be gushing about it for years on the Antiques Roadshow!

I have ran into those cactus when doing my cactus garden one and only year. They are nearly impossible to see. Don't stay on computer long. Knee says it gets to stiff under desk. Just wanted to drop in and say hi. Thanks for al the encouragement.Recovery is slow but I am getting there.
