A Piece Of Heaven In Texas

I wish the people who think Texas is ugly could have followed in my footsteps this past Mother' s Day week-end. The hill country makes you think of what heaven might be like and to spend it with family and friends made it all complete. Narrow country roads through the cedar winding our way to the old farm house painted barn red where we slept with the windows open letting in the fresh country air. Breakfast of vinison sausage, bisquits with homemade jam and eggs. No this isn't a bed and breakfast but I was treated as if I was at one. The water in the softly flowing creek below the patio was so clean and pure. Too bad it was too cold (yes cold in May in  this area) to wade but I could wish couldn't I? The trees so tall the squirrels felt brave to tease the dogs and pretty birds not to be seen where I live. A cabin in walking distance with an outhouse just in case. A place to target practise safely on the side of a hill. I sat and watched under a tree with one of the dogs. A four wheeler to race from place to place. I held on tight as we splashed through the water over the road. Remind me to never  take my eyes off a goat when I'm pulling a limb down to let her feed off the leaves of a tree. She didn't mean to knock me backwards onto the ground as she reared and landed on my shoulders. No broken bones, thank goodness. I've never seen so much wild garlic growing in one  place. Wild turkeys heading to their favorite tree to roost, gobbling as they went. You kinda feel like you are invading the deer's private property but they didn't seem to mind sharing. A trip to a hill country cemetary and a country store. What a peaceful place! Another house with a porch with rockers and a view to die for. A perfect place to appreciate nature and beauty. Words or pictures can not describe a piece of heaven in Texas.

It sounds like a perfect place to spend Mother's Day! The hill country is indeed a beautiful part of Texas - - it's entirely different than the ugly high plains of West TX where I live.

This week has been unseasonably cool and I like it. It rained last night and I had to put an extra cover on my bed!

There is always beauty for those who are willing to look for it. I was in the Dallas area one year when the bluebells were blooming. What a sight!
