Playing Paper Dolls

Just saw a picture of paper dolls on the internet. When I was a little girl we could buy a book of paper dolls and cut them out and play paper dolls. They had tabs all around on the clothes to bend over the doll to hold the clothes on but I hated those tabs for some reason so I would cut those off and just hold the doll's dress on. Of course we would talk and do animations. A cousin of mine who was my age and often played with me hated that I cut the tabs off so she would lick the back of the dress to try to make it stay on. I hated for her to do that. If we didn't have the money to buy a book of paper dolls and were desperate to play we would cut the lady images out of the Sears Roebuck catalog but they weren't as much fun as all the dresses and accesories in the paper doll  book.

Such sweet memories you conjured up for me. I remember paper dolls and love them still today. The Victoria magazine used to have a new set in every issue that I cut out for my GrandLoves. I still have them. Thanks for the reminder. I will be digging those out of the drawer the next time the little girls are home.
Have a back-country traveling week.

I LOVED paper dolls when I was growing up. I would cry if anyone cut off my tabs. Simple pleasures wouldn't keep today's kids occupied for a minute. Such a shame. thanks for the memories of yesteryear.

Simple things were always so much more meaningful in our long-ago childhoods.
Most of the kids today seem to be nothing more than robots in an electronic world.

Wasn't there a song, "I wish I had a Paper doll I could call my Own"?

One the other fellows would adore.

Oh well, Good entry, you come up with interesting stuff.
YOU WHAT? CUT THE TABS? How could you do such a thing? LOL

Some of my favorite childhood memories are playing paper dolls with my best girlfriend/cousin. I remember those nice paperdoll books.

I had some like that! And then in the late 60's here come some paper dolls covered in a shiny, clear coating that allowed their clothes to static cling onto them. What I miss are the balsa wood gliders.

Thanks for the memories! Sounds like a song, but in this case you really bought back some fond memories for me. Loved paper dolls. I recently made some cut outs of my grand-loves to put in my fairy garden. While doing them it reminded me of playing with paper dolls. Check them out in one of my recent posts.

I loved playing with paper dolls when I was a kid, especially during the winter. I would sit near the fire and play for hours. I had SUCH a huge collections of them. A few years ago I found my very favorite paper doll, never used, and all her clothes on eBay, so I bought it. Then I started collecting some more. I'm not sure what I'll ever do with them, but I just wanted to have them. I also cut pics out of catalogs and played with them, but the real paper dolls were my favorite, and I liked them better than Barbie dolls.

OH my what a lovely memory you brought back to mind this morning for me. I can not tell you how much playing with paper dolls meant to me when I was a young girl. I spent hours at my MaMa's playing with them.
I am with you the tabs bothered me. Sometimes I would use my grand mothers bobby pins for holding the clothes on. haha
Licking the back of them would of really got my dandruff up. haha
Love your headboard picture.
Did I miss your Birthday I am sorry.
Belated Happy Birthday
Love ya

Oh, I had shoe boxes full of paper dolls! I loved them! I didn't like playing with them. I just liked cutting them out! Once in a while my cousin and I would cut figures out of catalogs or magazines but it got pretty boring pretty quickly.

Paper dolls were so much fun. I wonder what made you hate those tabs so much? That just cracks me up for some reason.
