Explaining Deer Proof Fences In South Texas
The deer proof fences here are built by the owner of a ranch to keep the deer in, not out. Either because they lease their ranch out for hunting or want to keep the deer for themselves and family. Ranch owners here seem to think the deer and wildlife on their property belong to them. When John and I lived on the ranch the wild hogs were just starting to come in so we started trapping them. We ate a lot of the meat and transported the larger ones to a company that bought them if they were of a certain size. They advertised them as Wild Boar and sold and shipped the meat out. One of the neighbors got quite upset with us but as time went on and there were more and more hogs doing damage many people were trapping and shooting and some still do. Wild Boar sounds much more exotic than hogs. Bet the meat was tasty. I LOVE deer, so I'm not fond of venison.
You have a very interesting life there - I don't think I could eat that - but love hearing about it! sandie
thanks for that, paula. (and for the explanation in the comment you left, too.) :)
Thanks for the info. I was thinking as much.
Amazing how folks change their minds when a problem becomes theirs.
I have always been curious if the wild hogs could be sold. I know in Florida they do have some big BBQ'a and use only Wild Hog.
I did learn by seeing, the damage wild hogs can do. My first sighting I was shocked and thought someone was ROUGH PLOWING until the Rangers told me, "NO Jack that is what WILD Hogs can do." They have one tough snout!!!
Good entry. Thanks.
I haven't noticed any change in your format or settings.
Wild boar BBQ sounds good.
Sometimes it does seem that we think Everything belongs to us.
