Can We Make Five More Years Of Ranching?

John signed a lease for five more years on the ranch. At least on the middle area. Now he has to sign one on the property adjoining on both sides. The middle part is the most important part as it has the stock tank, well, and cattle pens. The farm house too which is more of a headache. He did get paid by two of the landlords for the loss grazing from the gas pipe installed across the ranch. The other landlady is ill so her kids have to get everything ironed out as to who will be in charge of the business end of the deal, write checks, make leases etc. The gas company is supposed to plant new grass where they destroyed very soon and they have everything cleaned up except making the gates smaller and picking up their porta- potties. The tall deer proof fence in the back forty seems to be finished except for some extra posts. Guess we won't be seeing many deer or turkeys or wild hogs in this part. We did see a small covey of quail. We won't have to check the fences back there as often as these fences belong to the owners who had those put up. I guess they are all happy their deer they think they own can't come visit. Oh well it's good and it's bad for us. Good not to have to mend the fences and bad I can't admire the wild animals. There is still one area where they can come in if someone else doesn't get the bright idea to deer proof fence his ranch. The turtles were happy to see me and when I called to them they swam as fast as they could. Some of them had cleaner shells then usual. They look so pretty when I can see the design.

our turtles are really gunky as our pond is still low and algae-laden. we need rain.

5 years seems like a long time to commit to anything these days. but then again, time speeds by...

I reckon you and John will keep ranching and making trips out there till you just can't.

Sure you can make it only 5 more years, maybe ten!!! You must, because the next guy and gal might eat the turtles!! OUCH!

Nah, I hope all will be fine. We must have you at the ranch to get the country tales!!!
