Landlady Revisited

When I speak about a landlady I think of an older woman but I was a landlady when I wans't so old. Scrubbed lots of toilets and cook stoves and painted lots of walls. Anyway what I'm trying to say is one of my long time ago tenants called me yesterday. She was so glad I still had my landline phone so she could find me. She Was into her second marriage and expecting her first child when she and her husband rented from us. I always thought of her as being younger then me but she is only two years younger then me. She told me she is having memory problems and I noticed she was asking her husband things as we talked to answer my questions. She has always called me by the name Linda and still does so I didn't correct her. They rented from us in the 70's so that is quite an honor for someone who rented from you that long ago to want to talk to you still. Another woman who was a young newly wed and had her first baby while she lived in our apartment calls me about once a year. She told me my husband Mel taught her how to fold diapers (no pampers back then) and I'm sure he did because he knew how to care for babies. His younger brother was mentally retarded and he had to help his Mother with taking care of him. Wish I could talk to more of those nice people who rented from us.

Hi Paula, Yes, it is nice to receive a call from a friend of so long ago. I am sure it brought back some good memories.

Have a good night, DD

Renting is a business. And it is always great for one who knew you as 'the boss' or land lady to think enough of you to stay friends. I think everyone who reads your blog can tell that you would be a winner to deal with (maybe a pushover at times too). But it is great that you established long time relations like that. A testimony to your character.
Love from Pennsylvania.

I am not surprised that folks would want to keep in touch with you. I feel bad for not checking in more often but hopefully, that's going to change now that most of the gardens are in the jars and the freezer. I feel like we are dear, old friends. That's the one thing I love the most about blogging. I never thought I'd get into it but now, I would be lost at times.
As for those bobby pins, there are some in my drawer too. I still like to grab them once in awhile, just for the fun of it. In fact, the next time one of the GranddaughterLoves is over, I'm going to show them what they are for. Always an interesting read, coming here.

How nice that she remembered enough to want to call you. I think of land ladies as being older, not as old as me but old. Joe is going to use the car to go get a hair cut, or I would make an appointment with the Doctor. Think what ever junk I have picked up has gone on long enuogh.

Wow .. you must be one terrific landlady for folks to keep in touch this way. I thought Landlady/Renter relationships like this were just the stuff of fiction, like Ethel and Lucy. Nice to know they exist in real life, too!
