Looking Back On Our Company Days

Remember these guys? We took our company out to see them and they were either not there or were away from the road. I know the Mr. Company would have loved seeing them. He was born and raised in Alaska so everything is so different here in south Texas he had a lot of interest. He said the thing he would not miss from here is the grass burrs. They are worse now as they are dry and stick to everything. Shoes bring them in on carpet and barefeet pick them up and they do hurt. I fight them in my yard but John's yard is much larger and he has a vacant lot so he lags behind in the grass burr department. We also visited Choke Canyon and ate at the restaurant that was formerly owned by Nolan Ryan the baseball player. He owns a ranch south of here and his beef is sold in some stores around here. Mr. Company ask how far the water freezes in that lake which was a funny question to John as water barely freezes in the birdbath here. Another difference in Alaska and south Texas. We took them to two of the Missions in San Antonio and he wanted to see where I lived in that area. We drove along the San Antonio river and also spent a couple of hours at the VA hospital so he could get his blood work since they are gone from home two months. Since they left here they have spent time in Florida at two relatives and are now on a cruise. We took them to Medina Lake where the water is very low because of lack of rainfall and the farmers irrigate from that lake and have been able to do that since it was built 100 years ago. The 100 year mark just passed and they are no longer permitted to drain from that lake. we ate a lot of meals at our hospital cafeteria. We have a chef there now with lots of different recipes so it's more like eating in a restaurant plus John and I get a good discount since we belong to a senior organization. We traveled lots of country roads to show Mr. Company how south Texans live. Mrs. Company was inclined to nap along the way. They should be here now, beautiful sunny spring days with no snow in sight which is what they were getting away from.

I think it must be a huge difference between Alaska and Texas - I bet there has to be huge surprises for them. And you were the hosts with the mostess!

Florida also has the burrs. They are SHARP!
Loved the entry as you took us with you. IMMA thinking there is a lot of difference in South Texas and Alaska. I know you were the Hostess John was proud of, but it is always nice when much company leaves..

HUGS from over the Gulf...

It sounds like your guests had a grand time in Texas. You should plan to go to Alaska for awhile and visit them, just to get revenge.
Those grass burrs are rampant where I live. I never saw so many in the winter.

They say that when away visiting, it's always good to get home again...when ever we visit TX which I absolutely fell in love with, I'm happy to leave the fire ants and those sharp sand burrs there. The first thing I do when we get back home is to kick off my shoes and walk across the grass in my lawn~barefoot. No sandburrs here. Come visit sometime.

Glad you enjoyed your company Paula. The comment about the lake freezing made me laugh. Florida and Texas have the weather and the burrs in common for sure. I like the new look here at your blog :)

So they moved on to other grounds. I bet you were so lonesome you could hardly stand it.

I'm a fan of Texas;(coming down in Feb.) but not those burrs ~ like Dar said, we don't have them here and can go barefoot in the lawn all the time. It sounds to me like you were very nice host:)
