Not A Creature Was Stirring

Well the cows were hustling but that's all. It's winter in south Texas so we were out early to feed the cattle in the brisk fresh air. John has nine baby calves on the ground. The latest is a solid white stocky  thing. A replica of his mother. You would never know he has a solid black daddy. The one big bird who stays by the stock tank appeared to have it's wings wrapped around it's body standing perfectly still trying to keep warm. The turtles were not about to come up out of the mud no matter how much I called to them in my sweetest voice. Guess the renters in the farm house  still had the covers over their head since all was quiet there. Neither seem to be working these days and are behind in the rent. At least they are slowly getting rid of some of the junk around there by digging big holes and burying the old bottles and cans. There use to be an old cistern and some former renters had thrown trash in it which no one knew until the cistern rusted and fell over exposing the ugly trash. We were able to drive around for the first time since the 3 1/2 inches of rain which filled the stock tank. At the back forty we could see what looked like a white cow in the middle of the field. Whoops that shouldn't be as the gates have been closed since hunting season started. We had to go check that out as the fence could be broken and a neighbor's cow came over. When we got closer we could see it was a large plastic bag hanging on a tall piece of grass. How decieving our eyes can be especially since we have aged and how far  those bags can travel until they come to a stop. So all is well at the ranch at least for now.

I bet that white calf is something to see. I would love to have an all white calf. The people who had the farm before we bought it buried their trash. Over the years it has started to come out of the earth. There are so many broken bottles and what not. We are going to get it covered so the wildlife doesn't cut their feet. Glad to hear the ranch is well.

I bought him a cake. I am to old to bake one and expect it to be edible. I was sort of sneaking around getting his cake today and of all things I bought Cinamman ice cream. Wonder when Blue Bunny came up with that? He will be 76. I told him he is just a kid.

Love the tale. it is amazing to us neophytes how you keep the mamas and the papas straightened out and know the names.
Shirl's husband called those runaway bags aliens.

I love your cow pictures...

I hope the renters are able to find a job and catch up on there rent soon. Glad it was just a bag and not a fence needing repair. I wish all this rain we are having would turn to snow. Take care, Sheila
PS I enjoy a little ramen noodles on occasion, I add a little chives.

Boy I can relate to the renter problems but thank goodness no more since I sold my home.
Those big white bags have fooled me a few times out here while riding around checking things out. It's amazing how much trash you can find and have to pick up while riding around.
Been so cold I have been hiding inside more than out lately.
Guess it won't be long and I will be complaining about how hot I am mowing. lol
Thanks for coming by and checking on me tonight.
Love
Maggie

Things flying around can fool the eye. Just yesterday, it was a bit windy and Bill looked out the window and wondered how the barrel rolled way to the edge of the field, so he decided to get it before leaving for town. It was his tarp that was supposed to be on the tractor. Wish the winds would bring in some wet stuff. We sure need it. Our snow is just a dusting across the yard, unbelievable dry winter without the snow so far.
Love all the cows too. I miss having them. All mine were named too. What ya gonna name the white calf...
Blessings
