Fresh Country Air

It was sooo nice in the country this morning. Not too hot and not too cold. We drove all over the ranch with the windows down. We were looking for the mama cow and her deformed baby. There are lots of places to hide and hide she did because we never found them. The calf is probably still alive and the mama knows something is wrong with it so she is staying with it. We figured they were in the dry creek bed since there is some water there now from the last rain. John walked part of it while I drove the truck around to our meeting spot. We're sure the calf can walk because they are not in the area where John found them at first and it was newly born. We will look again and in the mean time maybe she will bring it up if it is able. The turtles were hungry today. They even had biscuit for breakfast. John has two jersey cows besides all the mixed breed and he has those two so spoiled. When he can find one or both he special feeds them with cubes. They act like they know they are special and get special treatment as when he stops the truck they stop grazing and head for the truck. Everything seemed to be sleeping in. No turkeys, roadrunners, cardinals, but we did see one cute little cottontail rabbit. John told me the day I didn't go with him he saw four. I'm wondering if the two we see had babies.

It's wonderful to experience the world's awakening this time of year. Maybe the calf is worth saving even with it's deformities if it can get around. (Hugs) Indigo

Sounds like a good day, except for the illusive mama and the calf. Imma thinking all is well in your world today. That is good.

I hope the calf survived.

I feel so sorry for the calf.

You definitely live in a much nicer area of Texas than I do. I've never seen any cardinals or roadrunners in my area. Maybe they all blew away.....

Sad about the calf. We've seen strange happenings on the farm too.
Nature. Glad you are seeing nice weather. I cannot wait to roll down the windows.
