The Back Forty

You may ask what is so special about the back forty? To a city girl or someone not interested in the country it would probably be boring. I love to go to the back forty. I ask John to go there most days I'm with him. It's old news to him but he usually goes to appease me. He used to plant hay grazer back there and I liked to ride on the fender of the big John Deere with a little shed over top. You never know what you will find back there so sometime he is glad I twisted his arm. The one day we found the beautiful exotic deer from next ranch over which started a scavanger hunt that lasted a few weeks. Once I spotted the fence down in back where a coyote (man who transports illegals) had driven a large pick-up loaded with illegals trying to escape the border patrol. If we had not found the fence down John's cows could have all been scattered in thick brush and hard to round up. One other day we found where someone had set snares and there was a coyote caught and still alive. We were able to notify the hunter who could relieve it of it's misery. We often see wild turkeys and used to see wild hogs and still see signs where they have been there. Haven't seen a white tail deer in a long time since there are deer proof fences along most of this area. Not installed by John or the owners but by neighboring ranch owners. Sometime when doing the plowing we would run upon a rattlesnake, ground squirrel, cotton tail rabbits. Once when I wasn't with John he came upon a deer and her fawn so he stopped the tractor so as not to run over the baby. When he got down from the tractor to move the baby the mama became very angry. No shopping, no TV's, no restaurants, just complete peace and quiet.

It really does sound like a fascinating journey, and it enables you to see lots of interesting things that would otherwise go unnoticed.

It does sound wonderful....with the exception of the rattlesnakes and the illegals....aren't you afraid of them harming you if you happen upon them? I'd be terrified.

Honestly, nothing about your life seems boring. And peace & quiet is a beatiful thing. People who need to fan the flames of drama all the time are actually more boring to me. Same ole..

I think I would enjoy the back forty too. I'm a city girl but have always been a little bit country too after spending summers on the farms in Tennessee when I was growing up.

Thanks for asking I am doing OK.
Life is not easy alone when you
have been married 45 years and cancer takes your mate.

When I lived in Charlotte our lot was 1200ft. across the front and
600ft. deep. and owned the lot
behind that joined our property. It is so funny we were in the City but we called it our back forty. It was beautiful trees and with animals. I have beautiful back yard here with trees have seen 3 deers and I am in the City. The land has been taken and have left our animals no where to go.
