What Will You Have Milk Or Water?

We were thinking today we have never seen Josie near the stock tank. How do calves learn to drink water anyway? Josie is blind how would she know to go there unless she happened to follow her mama to the edge and could smell the water. So we got a bucket and went to the pipe where the water was going into the stock tank and filled it. I drove carefully over the bumps with John holding the water to where Josie was. We put a little water on her nose and lips but she was looking for milk and an udder. We gently pushed her head into the bucket. Water didn't taste good to her so we left the bucket of water near her. She can make noise almost as loud as any calf now. She is sooo cute and tame. Wish I could move her to the city and take her for a walk and show her off. I don't know what is going on with Mother Nature. There are not near as many turtles and when I walk up to the water two frogs jump in. In all the years I have never seen a frog at this tank. We've had some nice rain but nothing like the flooding in San Antonio. We're seeing the two quail but no babies yet. I like to see the way they run on the ground ahead of the truck until it seems they think we're getting too close then they lift up in flight but not too high.

Interesting teaching Josie about water. Hope she gets the hang of it.

How cool that you are trying to teach Josie that there is water. Hope she gets the hang of it, before mama shuts off the milk supply.

my canadian blogger friend that had a bottle baby orphan had to teach her calf to drink water, too. she put water in the bottle, first, to get her used to drinking it. then eventually put the bottle down into the water to make her realize water was there for her mouth. it took a while...

Ah ha! were the frogs wearing tennis shoes? LOL.

That is a question I had never thought of, water/milk. You guys have to think of a lot of STUFF we neophytes don't.
Love the post. This is a thinker...

I hope Josie learns to appreciate water AND that more turtles show up!

I'm really glad you are giving Josie time & attention, sounds like she may need it for a while.

Poor thing. I am so glad you are working with her to get her use to water.
Thank you honey for the sweet comment you just recently left me.
Things out here have been so crazy I have forgotten what normal is. haha
I hope you take better care of yourself too. We have to do it ourselves no one else can do it for us.
Love
Maggie

I have a feeling before it is all done Josie is going to be one spoiled calf. She was lucky to be born with caring people like you and John.
