Awww Baby Wild Turkeys

On the way from the back forty I spotted two turkey hens under a tree. Then I started seeing little heads pop up as they all ran in the tall grass. Of course I wanted to count them but couldn't get a good count in the tall grass. Didn't seem to be a lot or enough for both hens to be mother to some of them. One of them might be the mother-in-law and grandmother to the babies. You know how I like to figure everything out and if I can't, I just say the way I think it is. The roadrunners were doing what they do best, running here and there. When we went to the the east property looking for a cow that should be having a calf soon a coachwhip snake crossed in front of us. We didn't find the cow so she may be in the creek under some big oak trees. She is easy to spot, black with a big number six laying horizontal on her side. Someone else's brand, a cow John bought at auction several years ago. Josie is growing and doing good, staying right with her mama number 12. John got quite perturbed at number 12. He put her in the pens and closed the gates so she could eat some cubes in peace. She went hairy cary running and looking for ways out. I told him you better let her out she is looking over the fence and is going to try to jump or tear a fence down. So she missed out on the cubes she loves when he opened the gate for her to run out and other cows didn't loose anytime going in and lapping up her cubes. It was already hot at 9:30 and we're looking for triple digits again today.

I like roadrunners but haven't seen any in a long time. Last night there was a HUGE skunk in my back yard.

It seems to be hot all over TX. Two days ago it got up to 110 in my town!!!

Paula, your stories about the ranch and Josie and the road runners and turkeys. I haven't written any today yet. May not. For some reason I am out of energy. I shall recover.

Yeah that is hot, our thermometer here at Medina Lake, North of town reads 109.
Always love the stories and now we are here I know what you mean about the drought and the heat!!! But I am glad you guys did get water down south of town. They probably got some here, but the ground is so dry, I drained about 40 gallons on the ground and it did not spread over 3 feet. I have never seen ground that thirsty.
Best to Josie and the turkey kids. ((HUGS))

The other hen could be the sitter....maybe mama was going out tonight with Tom.

So glad Josie is doing good....too bad her mama missed out on the cubes!
