Town Appreciation

We have the pleasant name of Pleasanton. The population sign on the outskirts is printed with over 8,000 but I don't think they ever change that sign. With all the oilfield workers and some with their families going to school here that count should be much higher. When you first drive into town you would not be impressed with an old abandoned building but if you know where to look there are some pretty areas. We decided to check out the river this morning with the park along side it. The Atascosa river is a pretty river and there were a few people fishing and relaxing. We found lots of ducks and they were friendly when they discovered I had bread. We passed the nice playground for small children and the playing fields and pavallion. We need to take advantage of one of the picnic tables under a big oak tree. On we drove to several of the more afluent neighborhoods with big pretty homes and large oak trees, then past the junior college where John takes advantage of the beauty school part to get his hair cut. We passed the street to our tiny airport and the street to the country club. Several neat little shops on Main street such as Nest Feathers, Trailer Park Trinkets, and Sisters. Most businesses have moved to the highway and you can't tell where our town stops and the next town begins. We complain about the oil field traffic and the dog lease law not being obeyed, and we feel the need to drink bottled water but all in all we still have a nice town with friendly people.

as it should be. even with progress, still keeping some home-town aspects.

But from Susie perspective, someone needs to get a handle(leash) on the dogs ;0. I'm glad that cat has so many lives. ~Mary

It truly does seem like a very pleasant place to live. And so green!!! There's no green at all here in the wilds of west TX.

It's nice to live someplace friendly. We have a beauty school where we get hair cut too.

I love the small town feel and used to love visiting my grandparents home town. They retired in a steel mill community. The old mills had long been closed. There were still streets made of brick and cobble stone and you walked everywhere. When I go back for visits, I see progress has taken over but at least I still have my memories and they are all good ones. Thanks for sharing, love reading your posts.

I wish I could call Lincoln a town, but it is to big. My hometown is what I call a town. I think the population has gone from 300 to 350.We have seen some small towns we really liked. Crete where Joe was born, but now since Walmart moved in and the meat packing place and Alpo dog food , it is not so pretty any more.

Doesn't EVERYONE feel the need to drink bottled water these days? Have you ever read where drinking water comes from?
