Oilfield Worker's Wives Getting Sassy

Yesterday I was in a drive-thru line behind a big SUV. Printed in large visable white letters in the back glass was this---" Oilfield trash, making oilfield cash, and if you don't like it kiss my oilfield lovin' ass. With lines through it to make it look like dollar signs. I guess the big oilfield boom here makes just about everyone a little edgy. Our streets were not prepared for the traffic especially the big never stopping trucks. The trucks are wearing out our streets and roads. The restaurants are so full at lunch time there is no where to sit. The families of oilfield workers have been uprooted or living alone at home while Daddy makes the money while it's to be made. When we go anywhere we used to know a lot of people there, now it's mostly strangers. All in all most people are nice and polite and I certainly try to be. John and I even like to strike up a conversation with some of the guys to see where they are from and what their job is here. I would like to see what this town will be like when the boom is over as they have built so many large three story motels and cabins. The RV parks can melt away easily but what are they going to do with the motels? When it first started it was predicted to last about ten years and about one has already passed.

It will be interesting to see what happens. It must be a bit hard to see all of those changes for you though.

My hubby has been on the road for 27 years. I feel for those families missing a daddy and husband.

The lady in front should try the window of the kid who calls folks A-holes.
Yeah, I agree most folk are nice, but you always have the nasty ones who have to make an A$$ our of themselves.

Sometimes I get mad at myself for being so easy going instead of saying "SAME TO YOU". lol

oH WELL, I do believe what goes around comes around, and things even out in the end.
Love you lady hate these popups.

Oil boom today, ghost town tomorrow, scary what happens to a small town when this happens. Sad when daddy's has to make a living away from their families, but if it's the only way to survive, it happens way too often. Sadder still, is when the kids won't be there someday, for daddy, when he needs them.
Life gets confusing but is still good

I think it's wonderful that you and John try to be friendly to the men....some of them probably miss their families. You probably make them feel a little more at home when you treat them so kindly. :) Good job!

I wonder too Pauline what will happen with all the businesses, buildings and such when this boom is done!! It's hard on us I know because Fred is gone 80% of the time. I do feel like a single parent most of the time. I am thankful for technology these days as I can send photos and videos of his son so he sees what is happening here at home! I know I have my moments but we are hanging on and doing the best we can do. I feel for the military families when their spouses are away in another country, that to me is even worse...But I also know the oilfield families do not have to many people that help them when their spouses are gone for weeks and months at a time and that makes it hard...lots of divorces too as to many people are not strong enough to deal with it all.
