I Wanted A Birdbath But Got A Battery

This morning as I was sitting on my bench sipping coffee I noticed a bird hanging on to the back of the air conditioner for dear life. I realized it was trying to sip the condensation from the back of the air conditioner. I should do something for this poor bird. In the afternoon I decided to to to Virginia Twins to see about a birdbath. My truck battery was dead, caput. Took about an hour for AAA (thank goodness for them) to get here, push the truck out of the garage and get it started. I felt a little guilty not helping the young man push it out butttt I pay them every year and some years I don't use it at all. Sign the paper and off to WalMart. Yep need a new battery ( I kinda figured that), bought the one with a two year guarantee over five since I keep saying I'm going to buy a new truck. Trouble is three people are already in line to want to buy my old one sooo who do I sell it to, how much do I ask, who will have their feeling hurt? Decisions, decisions, decisions. While I'm there I have the tires rotated and check the garden shop for birdbaths. None, zip, nil, zero. When my truck was finished I went by Virginia Twins. Oh they had some cute ones and the size I wanted so I can move it onto the porch when John mows. I thought $74.00 was a little steep since I already have a big one across the street in my yard. Little birdie will have to fly across the street to drink until I find a light weight less expensive one or maybe he/she would rather have the condensation  anyway.

I know the birds gather under cars to drink condensation on parking lots. I wonder if it tastes better than faucet water....inquiring minds want to know! My son, who just got married and moved into a new house, bought a bird bath (heavy, cement...no decorations or color) for $15 at Lowes. Do you have a Lowes nearby? I know they had some smaller ones that were ceramic looking with pretty paint. I just looked on line and they have them starting at $32 online. Here is the address for them....copy and paste this in your browser and look.

The first one looks like a mushroom with a bunny sitting underneath and the second one is blue and white swirly design. I don't know how much shipping is, but I'd bet it'd be less than $79 total. :)

It's funny that John wakes you up each morning to see if you're awake. Men! Can't live with 'em....can't live without 'em!

Glad you got your truck battery fixed. Hope you find a more inexpensive birdbath.

i actually have a large flower pot drain pan that i place directly on the ground near the bird feeder tree. it's just a big plastic dish. some birds will still use it while others prefer the small birdbath which is off the ground.

Ahhh the bird baths. fun for the birds. I do live a bird bath and like to watch the birds. My brother used to make and sell concrete bird baths. Actually he made all the concrete yard decorations that last for decades. But go ahead and hang a catcher there to catch the condensation for mr or mrs bird, they couldn't care less what it cost. LOL.....

I to feel sorry for the birds. They hunt for water here. I had a bird bath and a feeder but all of a sudden we were over run with mice. They liked the bird seed. Finally had to start really taking it down. Tried moving it farther away from the house but the mice stayed. We finally got rid of the mice. I miss the birds. There were a lot of pretty ones.

The birds are too ingenious afterall. And the truck needed a battery; more important and a much higher priority.
