The bottom picture is the before picture of our little Old Rock historical church. The top picture is the recent remodeled building. The middle part is the original church. The left is a room to have socials and Sunday school and a small kitchen in back. Someone donated the sandstone rock that can be found in fields in this area and a lot of homes are built from it. Most of the labor was also donated. The workers didn't know they were supposed to contact the Historical Society and get permission for changes. When they recently added the restrooms to the right they knew better. The Historical Society came out and had a look. They wouldn't permit the rock on the right side. My opinion and my opinion only is it would look so much better with the same rock as the left and would have blended in. There also are two windows in back of the main church where there were two air window units used before central air a heating was installed. The members of the church wanted to take the units out and cover over the windows and rock that too. The Historical Society wouldn't permit that either. I believe they would permit stain glass to be installed. The attendance is small except on Easter and Christmas but it is a friendly church. The new additions are nice and the old Historical areas is old but not run down, just as you would imagine Historical to be.

How interesting. What a sweet church.
yeah, rocking the entire thing would have been nice. weird about the a/c units!
Interesting post. By the way, I was visiting you often 'til some health issues popped up and I decided that I should only visit with those that are kind enough to stop by and visit with me...that way, I spend less hours a day sitting at the computer and getting no exercise which I NEED to do.
thanks for stopping by.
I really enjoyed reading this about the church.
I absolutely agree with your opinion. It would look much more balanced and aesthetically pleasing if the right side was covered with sandstone rock.
I love the little church. And I agree there are times a group (Historical) can help. Then other times they are a pain in the back side because "THEY MUST PROVE THEY KNOW BETTER"
I found that to be true about inspectors, they must be smarter, OR THEY WOULD OT BE INSPECTING!
Now in my opinion, Historical is good. A nice plaque saying when it was built and who built it.
It is nice to keep the same construction material if possible.
Good entry and time to think....
Old and new ... we had something similar with the update to our local courthouse and also theater. I don't care for our upgrades to be honest because there is such a contrast.
