A Ranch Accident Waiting To Happen
No this is not our gate. I copied it off the internet but it does look like south Texas. It would be nice if the cows could learn to close the gate. John has a habit of jumping out of the truck to open or close a gate and leaving the truck in neutral. I have warned him many times this is dangerous. The truck could roll and pin him against the gate. I know it has happened and men have been hurt or worse yet killed. I hope he will listen to me now and not do this anymore. A few days ago we were on the east property and something was caught under the truck making a terrible noise. He jumped out to dislodge it and left the truck in neutral. When he couldn't get it loose, he crawled part way under the truck. As he did one of the very large cows came up behind the truck and in trying to steal cubes pushed the truck. I was on the passenger side but didn't realize the truck was moving. I was gazing off, looking at birds, watching for wildlife, or looking for any little wild flower to take a picture of. It scared John and he came out from under the truck yelling. I think he thought I was moving the truck. You can bet that cow caught "what for" from him when he realized it was the cow moving the truck. I noticed today he was putting the truck in park when we stopped at gates. Hope he learned a lesson.
