The Birds

Remember the movie "The Birds"? The farm house and the cattle pens had black birds everywhere this afternoon. I didn't see hide nor hare (hair) of the rabbit. I don't blame it for staying hid. It felt kind of scary to get out of the truck with the black birds (Grackles, I believe) flying everywhere and making so much noise it was nerve wracking.

My sister is deathly afraid of birds and absolutely hates that movie. I would like her to come visit so I can take her to Victoria Texas...That place is loaded with them and especially in the evenings around their mall area...it is kind of creepy! And never park your car under a tree or electric line there either, ewww!

We have a place where the blackbirds gather like that. And it is scary.

I wrote a post recently about an encounter with a bunch of turkey buzzards...ugly critters. My mother is very frightened of them, due to something that happened when we were living in Texas involving driving down the freeway at a good pace and one of those buzzards connecting with their windshield. It was pretty nasty and she never forgot it.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It has happened here several times during the past few years. The ones in my area are definitely grackles.

I got a kick out of the grackles comment. My late father always loved animals (mom too) and dad liked to feed them.

I always called them crows or blackbirds although I know there are quite a few varieties.

What amused me about your comment is that dad always called them Crackles. I can still see him feeding them. They would eat out of his hand.

That movie terrified me. I saw it for the first time when I was 7. We have Grackles everywhere, too. Although, I think they might be migrating down your direction now. Those might be some of the ones that we have fed while eating at Sonic or Chickfila!
