What's With The Birds?

I found two dead birds today. One at home and one at the ranch. I'm curious what killed them as whatever it was didn't eat them. As we were driving over the tank dam I could see something that looked strange at the pipe where the water comes out when John adds water to the stock tank. John said oh it's probably just a plastic bag. No it looks odd let me get out and walk over there. I couldn't make it out until I got all the way to the pipe. Oh how sad it was the Blue Egret that is always on the other side and never few away when we drove on the tank dam. A pretty tall bird. It was prone on the ground with it's head right up under the water pipe which doesn't have any water coming out right now. As I was going to put the rabbit pellets out a young fox or coyote ran from in back of one of the old buildings. I think it was a fox and I'm wondering if it is eating the rabbit pellets instead of a rabbit. I did see the rabbit again one day this week. The other dead bird was a dove on my front porch. It also was prone with its head as far as it could get behind a pot plant in the corner. Do birds get too cold and die?

Birds way up here can freeze to death but your country, even when it's cold, isn't so bad as to kill a bird. My guess is that the dove may have hit your window or other reflective on your home and the egret, heavens, I just couldn't tell ya, girl. I wonder if he got into something unhealthy or took some pellets from a pellet gun. That would poison him from the inside-out. Sorry about your birds. I've had plenty hit our windows through the yrs., especially by the feeders.
Hang in there, at least the rabbit is still around for you to watch.

we had a great blue heron die here at our pond one winter, too. had been hanging around, then found dead one morning in the pond. i guess they have to get sick or old and die somehow.

Just stopping by.

How sad, I know of some birds that have frozen, but it was bitter cold. I suppose they could have had an accident, or perhaps even died from natural causes such as old age.

Maybe they both got old at the same time!
But I think the dove flew into something very fast.
My brother was fond of saying, 'One never knows, does one?'

I see skeletons of dead birds in our yard once in a while but I try to beat Spunky to them. In this neighborhood on these 2 blocks, in this street of horrible back yards I always think it is surprising there are not more dead animals around. I know their are plenty of live rats and mice.

Bitter cold can kill almost anything. As a rule, in bad weather, the strong survive and the weak do not. It seems to be just part of the plan.

I'm not too good at seeing anydead animal. It always seems to make me feel bad.
