Mama Keeping Watch

Can you see the mama buzzard on the windmill? When we drive toward the cattle pens we see her fly out of one of the old barns. We've had this experience before so we know she is sitting eggs or already has babies. They are hid so we can't see them, but have seen some in the past. Buzzard eggs are about the size of turkey eggs. When the babies hatch they are cute little fur balls. As they grow one long black feather grows pointing to the back until all the feathers grow in and they become the ugly bird they are.

I actually enjoyed watching the Buzzards down at lake Okee. They stay on the rim watching for dinner around the lake or from the cane fields.
Mothers are special, even the Ugly Birds. (Smile)

Mama Buzzard picked an interesting place for a nest. I have never seen buzzard eggs.

Are you telling us the nest is in the windmill? Not a safe place at all. But mama knows best, I guess.

Paula, really like the old windmill. I never think about buzzards having eggs to sit on!
