Mamas Protect Their Babies Be They Human Or Fowl.

I guess I'm glad the rain kept me from going out to check the hawk nest in the lane at the ranch. I saw on the San Antonio news a couple had a hawk nest in their front tree last year but no babies. This year (maybe the same hawk?) has a nest in the same tree with one baby. When the lady came out on her sidewalk to go to her mailbox the mama hawk hit her in the head very unexpectedly from behind. The city or someone has put up crime tape in front of their lot and the couple put a sign warning people the hawk will attack. When the lady goes to her mailbox she carries an open umbrella to protect her head.

Scary to be attacked like that. But the fact is the hawk is a wild animal just trying to protect it's babies.

Mamas...are protectors to be sure...I've had mockingbirds attack me during nesting season.

WOW, yeah a mama can be VERY protective. But that is the first time I have heard of a hawk attacking. THAT COULD HURT!

that would not be a pleasant surprise. :)

Now that is definitely an aggressive mama!

Umbrella - good idea!

They can really hurt! You have to admire them, though. They'll take on anything, any size in defense of their home and their young.
