Eighteen Years Ago Today

Do you know what you were doing eighteen years ago today. I don't, but I know what my oldest daughter did. I just read on the internet Princess Diana was killed in a car crash eighteen years ago today. My oldest daughter was living in England at that time. She decided in days that followed to go to the place where all the flowers for Di were displayed and I don't know where that was but she said it was as big as a football field and there were flowers there in the whole place waist deep. A beautiful sight. My daughter didn't know how to get there but she took public transportation and figured it out. History in the making she thought, and I'm this close. It was getting late coming home and she was worried she wouldn't be home in time for her girls coming home from school but she did make it and has these memories forever of the beautiful bountiful flowers in the honor of Princess Diana.

My heavens...has it been that long ago. Seems like just yesterday the TV was on 24/7. And I stayed up all night for the funeral procession.

Your daughter has some good memories from her impromptu trip to witness such a loving citizenry in Britain. Bittersweet too.

It's wonderful that your daughter was actually able to be there at such an historical time. It doesn't seem like eighteen years. I remember it very well because that's exactly the day that I moved to Texas.

No I do not know what I was doing or where I was. But I do know it was a shock, I liked the Lady. She seemed REAL.

It is unusual to know someone who is living in another country when history strikes. Now I know OF someone who was there. ;-)

I had no idea it's already been 18 years! Wow! Time really does fly by. I don't remember anymore what I did that day, but I remember my mom being very sad.
Your daughter has a wonderful memory of this day with all these flowers. I need to see if I can find a picture.
Have a wonderful day, Paula :) Hugs to you!

Yeah I remember, it was so sad. Jarin and I were able to spend a few months over there with Rick in 1992. Cori was 4 when she died and we were up to watch the funeral. Cori said when she gets bigger she was going over there to take care of her boys. Not realizing the boys would be older too. :-) Take care, Sheila

I don't remember what I was doing but I remember hearing about it quite soon and remained glued to the television until late in the night.

Nice to hear about the sweet memories. It is always good to have our sweet memories which will make us happy when we think about it in times of unhappiness...

I was at University of Louisville Hospital with my Mom and sisters where my brother had undergone surgery to clip an aneurysm on his brain. He had had a stroke the night before and had been rushed to the hospital. They found the aneurysm and rushed him to surgery where they were able to clip it and save his life, but he was never the same after that. I was sitting in the waiting room with the TV on. My mother and one of my sisters was in the recovery room with Alton, and the other sisters had gone to get some coffee when I heard the news report about Diana.
