For Theresa's Good Fences On Thursday

This is an old picture, but I like it. When I was feeding the turtles everyday at the stock tank I would see this one boot and wonder where it's mate is. Probably down in the mud because I have left one tennis shoe down in the mud at another stock tank several years ago. It was in a south Texas drought. The stock tank only had a little puddle of water in the middle. I saw fish jumping up and down in that puddle. I happened to have some fish food in the truck. Around the puddle the ground looked hard and cracked so I ran down to feed the fish. To my surprise I sunk all the way to my knee on one leg. I couldn't get out. If John wanted to get rid of me this would have been the time to do it, just drive off. He got a refrigerator drawer out of the back of the truck (yes ranchers carry odd things) and put it near my free leg so I could put my free foot in it and it wouldn't sink while he got behind me and pulled me up and out. My tennis shoe is still knee deep or rotted by now. Quite an experience. I learned to never trust dry crusty land at a stock tank (pond).

That's pretty scary. It's not unusual to see one boot on a fence in Texas, but I have no idea what that is supposed to stand for.

I love that shot, but wow, what an experience. I can't help but think what if you were by yourself.

Oh the tales you have. Love it, I have lost a shoe in mud before I know the feeling. LOL As long as it was not Quick-sand, U B Good!

Sending love from North CArolina...

I remember a long time ago you had a shot of a boot you had used as a flower vase. Yours was the first I had seen. Since then I have ran across a few. I always think of you!

Well that is a spooky experience. What could have happened
if you were alone. It sounds worse than quicksand. Putting
that boot up with some flowers is a creatively attractive idea.

Perhaps, but it does seem that more people are decorating boots and so much so that an artist created a pair of old boots out of clay and have them appearing as if they too had fallen into the deepest of mud and still dripping in it! Very cool.

This reminds me of when we were hiking as a family in Colorado....along the Cimmaron River. Our daughter, walking along, enjoying playing in the mountains along the banks. She stood still for a while, tossing rocks into the river, and her one foot began to sink...just one foot/leg. She was stepping in quicksand. She too lost her shoe. But we managed to pull her out.

Love the fence picture today.

That boot hanging from the fence is cute and a good way to repurpose the boot (especially if it's only one of a pair). Enjoyed the story of how you lost your tennis shoe.

Good golly- you could a been a goner! That would have scared me off of cracked dirt around a stock tank for life. I like the boot on the fence with flowers.
