Memories

Yesterday Was a pretty day so we drove west toward Pearsall, Texas, made a big circle and ended up in John's hometown Charlotte, Texas. This old building is where his Mom had her cafe back in the forties. Since Iv'e been in this county it has been rented out for a cafe or an antique store but now it's been vacant for years. John' sister owns it but will not have it torn down for sentimental reasons. John used to shine shoes there as a young lad. The building to the right, now torn down was Millie's Saddle Shop. Most buildings in this old town are very old and run down and the streets look like old Mexico.

It must have been nice for John to re-visit his old memories. I agree with his sister, sometimes it's hard to let go. I'll bet you had a pleasant drive.

I would hate to see it torn down, or pass from the family.

If that building could talk, oh, the stories it would tell. Kinda like the building
in Green Fried Tomatoes. Little road trips are always fun adventure.

I would love the challenge of making and award winning home out of this building. Of course probably where it sits it would be a poor investment except for 'Memories'. I have seen small store buildings converted, schools redesigned, it takes a dreamer, but possible.

As a shoe shine boy at one time, I remember it well. Any more there isn't much use for shoe polish. Only memories and pride in making them SHINE@!

I love the name Charlotte, both as the name of a girl and of a town.

When I see dilapidated or old buildings I automatically wonder what it must have been during its "glory days". What stories it hold? I don't to wonder with your story. Such memories this building holds. I hope they repair and use it again for the new generation though.

What sweet memories in this building! I wouldn't be able to sell it or tear it down, either. How much I wish you could still make something out of it to keep the memory alive for as long as possible. I can almost see the busy cafe and all the people stopping in for a quick chat.
Have a fabulous day, Paula.
Lots of hugs,
Beate
