Falling Season

I've never heard of so many older people falling. I read here of a lady who hurt herself. I hope she is feeling better today. A lady at church has to walk a ways to her mailbox. She had been meaning to fill a little hole with dirt. Meaning was too late. She fell with one leg straight ahead and one doubled under her. Smart that she takes her cell phone with her. She called her husband who is on a walker. He hobbled out but she still couldn't get up with the help of his walker. She called the Sheriff's Department, they sent an ambulance. She wouldn't leave her husband but they did get her up. My friend in San Antonio decided to go to a line dance class but fell quickly and had to stop. Then she was trying to pull vines off her back fence while someone was mowing her grass. The folding chair folded and she fell and couldn't get up. The yard person couldn't get her up so had to get a neighbor man and his son. When she went to her doctor he told her to act her age. She will be 80 on her birthday. Some say exercise and I knew lots of 80 year olds who danced. The last was John fell but was able to catch himself on the sink before he went to the floor. In cleaning out a shelf I found a new bottle of Liquid Gold so I had a stool to stand on while reaching the cabinets to clean. I moved back to let him get to the sink and he tripped over the little stool. I thought he would be sore today, but wasn't. Everyone who is older please be very careful and I'm trying to.

Falls are difficult to deal with it's true. So you offer good advice to BE CAREFUL. And I add you should always take a phone with you so you can summon help if the unthinkable happens.

Our yard is full of places where the previous owners dug up plants or other treasures - I always worry when I go out and walk as I'm usually alone. I wonder if our gyros are wearing out?

Good warnings and advice. Carrying the Cell phone is a great idea. We just don't heal fast, if at all. When you start down it is such a terrible feeling. It happens so fast. I haven't been hurt bad, but there is always that possibility.
Stay UP!

Wait, isn't the moral of the story don't clean cabinets? That is my takeaway & I'm sticking to it. Thanks, Paula.

That is a lot of people falling! I'm glad John is ok, and I hope everyone else is as well. My Mom, in her 90s, was still being found climbing on chairs to clean windows and such, up until last year. I think my sisters have grounded her finally. Take care Paula, and I'm with Mary -- don't clean cabinets! :)

It's so easy, with no effort, to fall unexpectedly. And the results can be torture...broken bones, slipped discs, sprains....and when getting older, it's not all that quick a time to recoup either!!!

Been reading to catch up with your blogs...that doggie/plastic rabbit story was a hoot. And I too have yard trinkets galore. Yep, we get attached to them.

And no, I don't have any bobby pins any more, but we used to use them. Did you ever curl your wet hair and then pin it with bobby pins to make your hair wavy [the style back in the 50s?]

My sister-in-law and I are only 60....but in the past few years we have fell more than in our entire life. Knock on wood, I haven't fell in a couple years but have come close. And I was always so sure footed, so this surprises me.

She lives 400 miles away, so when either of us falls we email each other and ask if the other felt the earthquake...LOL

Falls can really lead to some nasty business!
