It's A Small World

I met a friend for lunch at The Longhorn Steak House. We went to a store to buy me a new pair of Asics, and on to the cemetery. We walked from Mel's (my deceased husband) grave to my friend's parents grave. It's a large cemetery near the San Antonio river so you just never know who you will run into there. Yes in reading tombstones I found the grave of the lady who pierced my ears when I was 13. What is the chance of that? I loved earrings and wanted that done so bad. My mama knew how I hated needles and was sooo afraid of them so she said I could have it done but if I had one and got nervous I still had to have the other done. She knew me well. As Amelia finished the first ear I was about to faint as my mama walked in the back door to say I was having the second one done. Amelia gave me a little shot of whiskey and proceeded. To this day I wear earrings most days even though the holes are not perfectly straight since I didn't sit still. Amelia's grave brought back many memories that I shared with my friend.

What a nice surprise, even if it was in a cemetery. Anything that brings back memories of family and days gone by is a good thing. I cannot believe you were ever afraid of anything. I thought you would have always tied tigers tails together! LOL
I enjoyed this entry.

PS: YES it is a small world, we say that very often. Amazing incidents prove it.

A walk among the tombstones is pleasant. How nice you met an old friend. ;-)

That would not be so surprising in our local cemeteries, as none are really all that big. But it is nice you got to pay your respects and relive a memory from your youth!

Made me remember pierced ears too.
My holes are also crooked due to doing it with a darning needle, a potato, and a slug of booze from Grandpa's private stash. Haha

I had my ears pierced twice...but never much wore two sets. I too love to wear earrings.

Kinda 'eary' that you'd find the lady who did your ears. (Couldn't resist the play on words)

I was just telling Roger I need to put a pair of earrings in...i took them out when Lorelei was a baby and have never put a pair in since. My ears close up in just a day or so if I take earrings out. They are the one piece of jewelry I really like and used to always leave a pair in ALL THE TIME becase of how quick my ears close.

A shot of whiskey -- now I would never have thought of that!

Eler Beth thought she wanted her ears pierced at age 10, so I gave in. She had one done and screamed and squirmed and cried, so we took the earring out, and I treated it twice a day until it grew over. Then, when she was about 14 (or 13) one of her best friends got a pair of earrings that Eler Beth really, really adored. She made up her mind to get her ears pierced. I told her what your mom told you. And she sat through both ears being pierced, even though she had tears in her eyes. I was so proud of her. lol She wears earrings almost every day. She loves unusual ones and long, dangly ones. She doesn't wear any other jewelry on a regular basis, but you rarely see her without earrings.

I'm going to assume that was your first taste of whiskey, unless that is a whole other entry :).

Oh yes Mary and I'm surprised my mama agreed to that at all.
