Remember The Alamo

I couldn't get my Alamo picture to go here, but it did go to Facebook. So the next best thing is these doors on one of the Missions. I grew up south of San Antonio and spent my married life south of downtown San Antonio near the Missions. The closest was San Jose. We could hear the Mission bells ringing and the peacocks hollering. I liked it and it never irritated me. The most beautiful wedding I ever went to was at Mission San Jose. The choir was in the back and up high behind the people attending. It gave off a sound I can't describe. Without air conditioning it was so cool in there with the thick walls. Wonderful memories.

Wow, that mission door looks ancient. I really love missions. I don't know much about the Texas ones, but I visited most of the missions in California and they are fascinating.

My parents used to live near a very old Catholic church when they were in Odessa, TX - and I thought it was wonderful to hear the church bells.

It is neat to read of places in common. The Alamo and San Antonio set very high on places we love to visit. We have been to San Jose also. It is sweet to think we know some one who lived nearby! I love how you described the choir. Our Ships Chaplain took some of the crew to a Greek Orthodox church in Athens Greece once, and the choir was located as you describe. I too remember even though the words were foreign to me, now the affect was much different than the standard accepted choir location. Neat entry lady. THANKS.

There is something haunting and yet, beautiful, about the Alamo. And to attend a wedding at one of the missions would, indeed, make some heart-felt, warm, memories. I bet in your mind you can still visualize it all, and hear the choir!

Wonderful post Paula.
