New Cows On The Block

John went to the cattle auction and bought two cows. Just what a man needs who is trying to retire. He had to hire the cowboy to haul them home after he finished burning pear for his own cows. Getting dry around here. This is an old picture of one of the stock tanks. It doesn't look like that now. John took me out to meet the new girls and they are pretty. One has horns that look to be a longhorn or at least part. He really wanted to cut her horns but didn't have anyone to help him. I hate to see him cut those pretty horns off but she was already hogging the feed in an old bath tub. When she put her head down into the tub to eat she took up almost the whole thing and the other cow stood back. He will turn them loose tomorrow and the other cow will have a chance. He pens them up for a night until they locate. When we drove over the tank dam the new rat tail calf was sleeping right in the road. It sure didn't want to move. It is such a pretty color, a soft beige but its tail looks odd. Not much to write about these days. It is dry and ugly. Its amazing how fast things can change out there but at least it isn't boiling hot.

Hi Paula. I'd be glad to send you some of this wet stuff that we keep getting on and off. The wind has just been awful, too. Not much to write about here either :)..........

Okay I guess you reported my planned rustling job. The Cowboy came with his dogs and moved the herd. My stolen dinner was drivenn off by the cow dogs.
BTW we only have a hundred of so pens that don't write, want em?
I am always learning something here. Never realized that the horns would allow a cow to hog the feed, easy to see, once it is pointed out.

My grandpa let me put my cow at his place... but he said.. I have to cut her horns because she is not letting the other cows eat. Hope you have a good week and yes, everything is dead out there. Janie

This is bringing back memories for me when I was a little girl living on my grandfather's Minnesota farm. I remember the day he introduced me to our cow and our chicken and let me name them: the cow, I named her Daisy. And the chicken, Sashabelle. So what will you name your new cows?

I am glad that you posted a picture of a stock tank. I was thinking of big metal tanks LOL. Those look like small ponds we have around this part. That longhorn cow is using her horns to her advantage. I hope she doesn't gobble up all the food and not leave any for others or gouge a hole in another cow. I thought John was getting out of the cattle business LOL Helen

I have a feeling John will never stop buying cows, don't you? I hate to hear that it is already so dry there. I hope it isn't a bad winter for you.

I didn't know lady cows had horns. She can
make all the others stand at attention.
Everything you do sounds so interesting and
fun. I do know some ladies that have horns
They hog everything plus the food.

Welcome to the new arrivals, I hope they have made themselves at home by now. I just said to Doug how ugly everything looks around here. I hate this time of year when things look so bleak.
