A few weeks ago the cactus all looked like this, full of blooms. They have mostly fallen off now but the pear apples that they grow out of have not turned red yet. We didn't stay long at the ranch this morning. It is sooo hot here now even early in the morning. We filled the water tank for the renters and rode around a little. We found the two new cows under a big oak tree. Meany was lying down and when she heard the truck she got up quickly and kept an eye peeled on us. Seems they have located and they are always together. I always wonder if they don't like the other cows when they do that or does the other cows not make them feel welcome. John expects two or three new calves in the next few weeks so that is always fun to look for them and see what they look like and if they are a boy or a girl. John is already planning to sell the big black bull or his son and maybe both he says. He has a new white bull who will be grown soon so he plans for him to father the calves in the future. Drives me crazy those big black bulls are so majestic to me. He probably has five logical reasons to sell. Not much to write about these days. We are just staying under the air conditioner and out of the hot sun.

Wow, Pauline. I guess I'll just be thankful for our cool, wet weather here.
in the 60's here today, I could never be a texan, I could never handle the heat!
Glad that you found those cows. Best place to be while it is so hot is where it is air conditioned. Helen.
and the rain comes down...the wind blows hard...and the sky is black and threatening...otherwise....it is a great day here in Kentucky....LOLOL...hugs..Ora
Sure wish we could share some rain with you, we are water logged. LOL Great entry. I love the Texas tales. The cactus flowers are beautiful. My boys used to eat some cactus apples in Cuba, their mouths were red like you said the cows get, I guess they are the same.
Later,
Jack & Sherry still in NC
Hi Paula
I love the picture of the cactus blooms. At least Meany has 1 friend. We are back to our normal spring time temps 60 to low 70's. I hope you can stay cool.
I love seeing the flowers on the catus. We have some huge Chrismas catus out here and they are just perfect when they bloom.
It is hot here as well. I am thinking it is a lake day.

You know I have never tasted anything made from the cactus. You will have to tell us what it tastes like They do a lot around here with the cactus but I did not grow up with it, so I am wary. Like I never used garlic because my country cook relatives were prejudiced against garlic. I am enjoying your observations of the social habits of cows. I admired my Grandpa's bulls that would fight to the death on sight, so had to be kept in separate fields. I happened to wiitness a legendary fight between them and they fought all day and finally got so exhausted the cowhands were finally able to separate them. It made a believer out of the cowboy who let them in together! If you and I got together we could tell each other one good story aftre another, like a country girlfriend and I do. I told her we could start from one end of the county and talk our way through all the people one of us knows to the other end! Gerry
I like the picture and keep cool under that AC... it's hot here too!
