The Woes Of Wal*Mart

Mid afternoon we drove up the highway to Wal*Mart and parked behind a shiny red small truck down by the garden shop. I noticed John got a little close behind the truck but didn't say anything or think much of it. We shopped about an hour and of course as always ended up on the other side of the store. John told me to wait with the groceries and he would bring the truck around. I chatted with the greeter while I watched for John to drive up to the curb. Finally he came walking around the corner with an odd look on his face. I though he was uspet because I didn't come out and he had to get out of the truck. He said we have to go a man says I hit his truck when we parked earlier. what truck? You didn't hit a truck! We had to walk the entire width of the store in the hot and when we got to the truck a policeman pulled up. The owner of the truck is standing by the red truck with a smug look on his face. I ask him where is the damage and he wouldn't answer me. I looked at the front of John's truck and there was a dent in the middle of the licence plate. I looked at the man's truck and there was a light scrape on the left side of his bumper. Humm not a match here. John's truck is a work truck, lots of little scratches where he drives over cactus, through mesquite bushes and over cow patties. All of a sudden two guys walk up who say they are witnesses. Humm I'm thinking where were all these people when we drove up? I didn't see anyone. I didn't feel any bump or hear any noise. Police officer wrote a report but wouldn't give any opinion. He did say the man has the same insurance company as John does. When we got home John called his insurance company and told them everything. Think maybe the man had backed into someone and got the scrape or doesn't know how he got it and he and the supposed witnesses figured a way to get his new shiny red truck rid of a small scrape.

Hi Paula,
Sorry I am behind in reading your posts, but I just saw this one in my reader before going to bed. You may want to check with Walmart to see if they have camera's as all the ones near me do. I had to prove to them a shopping cart in there parking lot hit my car, they had it on tape and I got paid. It may be worth the phone call. I will catch up with your posts soon!
Take care :)

It is so frustrating to be put in that position. Trying to prove you 'did not' do something.

Problem is the Ins. co will probably settle with itself and pay for the guy to get the scrape fixed. Leaving a little mark on John's ins. and leaving Him madder than a wet hen cause he knows he did not do it.
But then I hope I am wrong and it all blows away with the TExas wind.

I agree with Tabby, The Walmarts here does have security camera's and they tell you on signs posted outside they have them. Those people shouldn't be allowed to get away with that. Helen

This world is full of people trying to get something free at honest people's expense.
Someone put a small dent in the side of my new car they didn't leave a note of wait for me to come out. I cannot understand how people live with themselves when they lie. I hope the Insurance Co. believes John. We all need to take a camera with us at all times to take
a picture of these things. Good Luck

Reads like a scam to me.

About how fast was this guy going in reverse when his truck hit Johns?

yep, ours have cameras in parking lot. check with walmart mgr.
sad this type scam happens, but it does, all too often. so many people out there trying to scam others.
hope your insur doesn't go up, this sometimes happens after an accident, even if not your fault. esp when it's word against word, insur just settles & then sticks it to the fall guy. :(
good luck...

That is so dishonnest. I hate people like that. Like whoever backed in into my Parked Taurus in Shopko and broke out bumper and didn't leave a note. That is a scam sure as can be.

When my grandaughter worked at Super 1 food store, someone broke into her car in the parking lot. The store camera caught it all and the police were able to identify the culprits. It's sure worth a shot.

I hate when things like that happen. Hopefully there's a store tape or something that will show John didn't touch the guys truck.
