Mrs. B's Eggs

The lack of punctuation on this sign on my side bar didn't matter to Mrs. B's customers. People still tell us when they were young they remember stopping with their parents to buy eggs from Mrs. B. It is fitting that John leases this ranch as he was born on the adjoining property. The two families became close friends. Mrs.B's husband eventually bought John's Dad's property which is now a part of the ranch. I had the honor of meeting Mrs. B a few times and we even visited her after she lived in a nursing home before she passed away. The story I've been told was Mr. B bought the land and built the house then went to his home town to marry Mrs. B. and brought her to thier new home. She raised chickens and sold hens and eggs. He raised hogs and farmed. John says when he came in for lunch she would go out and grease whatever needed greasing on the tractor or equipment and at the same time raising three children who all own the property now. The renters before the ones now swear the house is haunted. We lived there fourteen months and the ghost didn't bother us. That renter took the egg sign from the old orginal run-down house and hung it on her kitchen wall in the house the B's built in the 70's. Maybe Mrs. B. didn't like a stranger messing with her egg sign.

Mrs. B sounds like she was a hard worker as was her husband. Helen

Mrs. B is probably trying to send a message, like you said to leave her sign alone. I see snow is getting thicker outside. Just so it does not get slicker. My appointment is for 11:30 so it shouldn't be that bad driving . We are not supposed to get much. Maybe one to 3 inches of light snow.

Mrs. B sounds like my kind of woman. I can't imagine sitting idly by while my man was working hard. Then again I've never had a lazy bone in my body. (Hugs)Indigo

I would love to have that sign in my kitchen.
What a hard working and kind lady. She may
not like the way the renters are living. What a sweet story about Mrs. B.

I was glad to see the pictures of your turtles.
You have made some good friends.

Well, at least it wasn't Aunt B, well I guess she was somebodies Aunt B. WE were just talking about Aunt B last night. WE went to Mt. Airy, NC (Mayberry) and ate at Aunt B's restaurant. Not good! IMO
Now 'bout them aigs, we want four dozen!

She does sound like a real 'pioneer' type lady. Hard work isn't all it takes, but it is the basic ingredient for success, success being measured in happiness, not money.
Sherry & Jack Thanks for the story, love it.

PAULA, AS LONG AS A SIGN CARRIES THE MESSAGE, SO 'WHAT ?',I SAY.

MORE MEMORIES OF SIGNS DURING BUS DRIVING DAYS, RETIRED TWENTY NINE YEARS AGO, MANY SIGNS WERE ALONG OLD ROUTE 66 WHICH TRAVERSED POVERTY STRICKEN AREAS SUCH AS THE DYING LEAD MINING

AREAS OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND PART OF KANSAS AS WELL AS MISSOURI NEAR JOPLIN.
NEAR PICHER OKLAHOMA WAS A GREYHOUND BUS STOP AT WHICH SELDOM EVER PICKED UP A PASSENGER, THOUGH MUST STOP FOR 'PACKAGE EXPRESS' ITEMS, SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLASSIFIED AS FREIGHT. REPAIRS FOR MINING EQUIPMENT. (here i
go off course, must get back to 'SIGNS' AND AVAILABLE THINGS).
THIS BUS STOP NEAR PICHER OKLAHOMA WAS IN A TRASHY NEIGHBORHOOD. BEER JOINTS AND WEED GROWN LOTS WITH A PATH FROM ONE BEER JOINT TO AN ANCIENT DECREPIT LITTLE SHACK HAVING A LARGE SIGN ON THE SAGGING DOOR WHICH READ,'TOLIET'.
I SUSPECT THAT MANY THAT TREAD THAT PATH NOTICED THE MIS-SPELLING OR CARED.- - - IT WAS ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE WEARY BUS PASSENGERS.

IF INTERESTED IN THE OLD 'LEAD MINING DAYS', TYPE IN KEYWORD LEAD MINING PICHER OKLAHOMA.
MINING SO EXTENSIVE THERE WERE UNDERGROUND ROADS FOR TRUCKS. sam

What a wonderful story. My guess is you are right. Mrs. B. did not want her sign messed with. That sign meant her livelihood, so don't mess with Mrs. B.even now that she has passed. All of my eggs come from my mothers chickens or our bachelor neighbor. Nothing could be finer than a fresh egg.
