Sophie

I was trying to put a picture of my now cat Susie but Blogger wouldn't let me so I tried this one and here it is. The picture of Susie looks odd, her nose blends in with other hair and her nose on first glance looks like the nose of a fox. On closer look and study you can see it is Susie. Oh well that is how I see it. As you can see this picture was taken in March of '57. Mel and I had been married a year and one month. We lived in a tacky apartment that cost $35.00 a month but we did have a TV. lol Mel found the old back and white for $35.00 and thought I was going to be mad he spent that much. Heck I was glad so I could watch Dick Clark and American Bandstand.

OUR HOUSEHOLD WAS SLOW TO GET A TV.
IT WAS THE YEAR 1949 A NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR BOUGHT A TV. WE WERE NOT ANXIOUS TO GET ONE LIKE IT. BLACK AND GRAY SCREEN, NO COLOR YET.
THOSE RABBIT EARS ON THE NEIGHBOR'S TV WORKED BETTER WHEN THEY PUT SOME FOIL OVER EACH EAR.
SEVERAL CONTROL KNOBS SEEMED TO HELP EXCEPT EACH ONE HAD INFLUENCE ON THE OTHER.
WE MANAGED TO MAKE OUT WITHOUT A TV FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS.
'HOWDY DOODY' WAS A GEGULAR. NO LATE NIGHT PROGRAMS. sam

Good entry here Paula.I will say that is a pitcher full of......... 'cat'.

Funny I bought a black & white TV in 56/57. but the one I bought was so 'snowey' you barely could make out the characters. We paid $43 rent, a month, for a 26' trailer.

Love the old photo! And I bet the two of you had a world of fun in that tacky little apartment.

I got my first used black and white TV in around 1964 or there abouts . I like the picture of the cat. Our TV was not as clear as the picture of the cat.

Wonderful vintage photo! Glad you held on to it.

I'll bet if you still had that TV it would be worth something today ... you could probably auction it off on EBay or something!
Best,
Marty

My folks had cats for more than 40 years, and it is strange to see their familiar faces in old photographs. Television? Didn't enter our household until 1980. We were quite happy being entertained by the radio, or by card- or boardgames.
