Just Country

We headed on out to the ranch this morning mostly to feed the turtles and they were ready to eat. The green pollen off the trees was so thick they could hardly see so I broke the bread up and threw it on the ground by the water so they could see it better. There is a product John could get to clear the water up but I've been told it would kill the turtles and the fish if there is any left. Haven't seen them lately. When we drove on to the east property under the big oak trees and beside the dry creek bed we found one of John's cows dead. She was old but John wasn't expecting to lose her yet. He opened her mouth with a stick and could see she had lost some teeth and the ones left were wore down so the grass was mostly going through her teeth and she wasn't probably getting the nourishment she needed. Then when we came back near the pens we saw a cow limping. John thinks she may have slid and hurt her leg trying to get near the water when it was so wet a few days ago. Everything else is okay and not much to write about these days. The renters had their barbecue pit in the front yard and Domingo was cooking away with his daughter watching with her Texas Longhorn shirt on. We met two cars coming down the lane so I guess they were having some sort of celebration.

So sorry about the loss of one of your cows.
Hope the cow with the bad leg gets OK. I
am glad that the turtles are still enjoying
your food I think that is so cute that they
eat what you bring them. I don't know that much
about turtles. I just know the joke they tell.
Why did the turtle cross the road? To get to the
Shell Station.

Sorry to hear about the loss of the cow. It's been awfully dry here. Hoping for more rain this week.

I know it is disappointing no matte how old the cow. I imagine that is a problem to get rid of the carcus. Can't rightly have a church service and bury her, she be too heave for the pall bearers.
Good entry for us neophytes who know nothing about ranching, I did not know they died just like that. But I guess life and death are always with us.
