Announcing---------

The birth of a bounching baby boy born to Pal and who knows who the father is. Where is Ginger the friend while all this is taking place? Is she indifferent because she has never been a mother? Is She jealous or does she not understand what is going on? What do you think? We knew Pal would be having a calf in October but she must have had it a day or two ago which would have been September. We saw her a few days ago and she was kicking her back legs up as high as she could and running. We thought the flies were bothering her but someone told us bees were probably after her as cows don't kick that high because of flies. We do know they switch their tail around to their backs to swat them off or twist their necks as far back as they can to get rid of them. We didn't see any bees so this morning the weather was soooo nice we searched for bees on the big oak trees but we didn't find any. When we arrived on the tank dam to eat our tacos and feed the turtles we met Pal so we didn't realize she had her calf already. She left and went and got her calf and brought it near us. She wasn't afraid we were going to hurt it like some cows are with thier new born. She stayed around us a few minutes and then left for the pasture to graze with the other cows with her calf a few steps behind. The baby favors his mother being black with a few white markings on the face. Don't get to liking the ranch too well little boy as John can't keep many bull calves. When you get old enough and weigh enough you will probably go to market.

This made me remember about our two lab sisters, Maggie and Brownie. Maggie kept having pups making Brownie an Aunt, twice, to two broods. I kept thinking about what Brownie must be feeling... as she hasn't ever had any pups. The look on her face to see all those puppies running around was always rather funny.

Love your pictures Pauline.Every time I see something or hear of the birth of a calf it brings back so many memories from the farm. Most good except the bull.

Congrats on the baby.

Oh, to market. I would have a hard time with that.
