Walking With A Friend

Elsie and I went for a walk that day, footsteps soft and not a word did she say.

My coat was cloth and not very warm. Elsie was a city lady just moved to the farm.

Her green eyes watched me as if to say, I'm glad we're walking side by side today.

We walked past the pond to enter the lane, as the drizzly skies turned to rain.

She stopped to rest, then turned to run. Our brisk little walk was no longer fun.

She wore a coat that was sleek and shiny, leaving tracks along the way so very tiny.

In case you haven't figured, Elsie is a cat, she isn't worth a darn and doesn't even catch a rat.

She is my friend and we always walk together. In the sun or the rain no matter what the weather.

Paula, you got skills! great twist ending! I was not expecting her to be a cat at all! great job!

I knew it was not a cow, as they do not walk side by side for long or leave a tiny print or green eyes. She was not a turtle, tho they do walk slowly. So, was she a dog or a cat, or maybe an albino burro...love that she was a cat, even tho she cannot catch a rat.
Loved your poem

I read the name but still had Shellie Marie
in my mind. I know she would be quite and love
to have you by her side. Cats are so independent. Love your poem.

You write so well Pauline, you must have a poetic side. I thought for sure you were speaking of a calf.
