A Little More About The Buzzard Eggs

Since a couple of you were surprised mama buzzard layed her eggs where she did I'll tell you I was surprised as anyone because I never knew anything about buzzards except that we see them eating road kill. John had just bought a place south of here with the old house in my header. Not occupied for years. We didn't go there but maybe once a week as he didn't have cattle there yet. One day we went in the old house to look around. It was only a kitchen and bedroom.. There were two large eggs on the kitchen floor, not even in a nest. John run the buzzard out and closed up the chimney and a window that had been broken out. He threw the eggs away.Buzzard and eggs forgotten about. Next time we went out she had layed two more in what used to be a shed and they were on the floor, no nest. I told John let let her hatch them s to see what baby buzzards look like. I never dreamed we would actually get to see baby buzzards.

Well what a story. I do hope it continues like the Sat morn Serials at the show.

You have had some experiences down there in Texas. Love all your stories.
From NC, where didn't get any wind and NO rain which we also need.

These baby buzzards were in the past and they were cute. They were fluffy yellow until they turned black and long black feathers started sticking out the back.

I am surprised that the big birds don't use a nest. You sure see outstanding things...way out there in the "wild west"..haa..just kidding. Your blog is always interesting.

I think that's cool. Buzzards do have their place in nature, so I'm glad you let them hatch. Last week Eler Beth and I were driving to the library, and as we passed a large cemetery we saw some hug bird just sitting in an open grassy part -- no graves there yet. We thought at first that it was a turkey, but as we got closer Eler Beth said, "No! It's a buzzard!" I thought, "Hmm. Wonder what it's doing just sitting there. Must be something dead over there." Then I started chuckling, realizing what I had thought!
