A Hula Skirt On The Wall

I  wrote about this old tumble down house and the place it's on so if you're read it I apoligize. A few years ago John bought 60 acres south of Campbell, Texas which is south of here where we live. Someone needed money and sold it for a price John couldn't refuse (he seems to be lucky in that way). It had this old house, an old small shed in back and a neat small pond behind that. It had wild life and was hid from the road. It had good weather road all except just inside the property. It was not far from home and would have been the perfect week-end get-a-way It was only two rooms, a kitchen and bedroom. The only thing left inside was an iron bed with the old mattress and springs and a hula skirt hanging on the wall. Of course we had to speculate about that many times as to why it was there and why someone didn't take it with them. I loved this place and wanted John to fix it up for a week-end place. I could just see a rocking chair on the porch with me in it rocking my cares away watching the birds in the peaceful quiet. Before John got started on it we found a fly in the ointment. Actually it was more like ticks in the grass and trees. John hates ticks and I do too but I figured we could spray ourselves or wear flea collars around our ankles and above all stay in the trails more, then check ourselves carefully when we came in from a walk. To put it bluntly John and I come from two different balls of wax. John advertised the place for about twice what he paid for it and had a buyer before the old saying it happened before you could say "Jack Robinson". Now if it had been mine since he wasn't cramped for mony right then I would have enjoyed the place for a few years and then put it up for sale and probably made even more money since they aren't making any more land. Since he has admited he wishes he had kept it. Too late now but when I see this picture I think of all the peaceful weed-ends we could have spent out there.

Thanks for stopping by Paula you writes such a good blog. I have
got to learn how to use this thing.
I think I will enroll in a computer class. My mind may be to rusty. We were talking about you the other day about you living in Texas. Jack said something about the small Church you attend I said I remember. We feel like we are friends. My Friend is from Texas.

Life is full of those "what if's". Interesting about the hula skirt ~ like you said, why was it left behind?? If those walls could talk :)

Are you sure his name was John, and not Joe. They do strange things, do they not.

I'm still trying to picture the lady entertaining her man in the hula skirt!@!! And you never tried it on? No wonder he sold the place. hahahahahahahahahahaha

Yep, we all miss the mark sometimes. It is frustrating though, when money comes ahead of peaceful enjoyment! But then.............. Oh well, yesterday is gone!(sigh)

That Hula skirt sounds like a real mystery. Seems like a strange thing to leave behind.

Definitely worth a little scratching.

You just reminded me of something, it has been really peaceful here all week. Joe has been in the basement mopping the floors after getting all the water out.

Interesting post Paula, one I almost overlooked.

We are still having 80's degree weather, but may get cooler soon for a few days.

Take care. DD
