A Novel That Clicked

I may have never read the novel Goodbye, Paris Nash by Barbara O'Connor except for the fact my daughter Lynda happened to go to some event where she was speaking. Lynda won the door prize which was a copy of her book. Lynda ask her to autograph it to me as she thought it was a book I would like being about a Grand Champion steer. She did, and mentioned my daughter as lovely and generous, which she is. It's fun to read a book which mentions places you are very familiar with, which this book does. It mentions this town where I live, the high school and college my daughter graduated from. Many streets and places in San Antonio and south Texas. Yesterday John was watching The Electric Horseman for the umpteenth time and while resting in front of the TV a while it dawned on me this book story is similiar to this movie except the movie is about saving a race horse and the book is about saving a steer for a dying teenage girl. The two are different enough to make them both interesting and I love to read about places that are familiar to me. Now I'm waiting for Jack here in blogland to have his latest book out about senior romance. It should be interesting to me too since John and I met in later years.

There's nothing more satisfying than reading a book that is about places with which you are familiar. That's why I always enjoy books about California, especially Los Angeles.

I'm wondering if Barbara O'Connor was born in your part of Texas. If not, she obviously must have lived there at some time.

When I lived in San Angelo I used to read novels by Elmer Kelton, because he lived there (he is now deceased).

Books are great. I only regret I did not become seriously interested in reading until retirement. Until then I read books related only to business and job. I can imagine the book is thoroughly interesting to a person when the local area is covered. I have now read in excess of 500 books and written 6, this one being my 7th. The most fun book was inspired and co-authored by YOU. Folks thouroughly enjoyed your poems in our book, "Toby Tales". People laugh when I say Toby was real he lived in your back yard. hahaha We are cold here in Florida today...

It sounds like a perfect book for you! I just love it when I find one that suits me to a tea. Senior romance? Love the thought!
