We Found That Precious Baby

I wrote about the baby calf that is deformed. John saw it once but I hadn't seen it. I was expecting it to look ugly, but it doesn't. It's forehead is large, but it all blends in and it is the cutest little thing. After our chores we went looking for the mama and the baby. First we saw the mama in the middle of a field, probably going for water. When she saw us she retreated so we drove around to make her think we were going somewhere else. We drove up behind the area and along the fence line. I spotted the baby standing in a prickly pear bush. By this time the mama had got near her baby. She wasn't mean but she wasn't taking her eyes off us. John looked at it first then I got out and started talking to it and it came right out and near me. It is so pretty, black with a white face and the calf is large. We could tell the mama had been nursed. We think the baby may be blind. John has had a cow or two to go blind, but never raised a baby who is blind. I'm trying to convince John to hold off and see what happens, not to send it to auction. The mama is being a really good mom and sticking with the baby and since it seems to be nursing maybe it will be okay. If it is blind it can learn it's way around the place by following the other cattle. I'm so glad we found it. Yes I'll have pictures later.

Animals are resilient. If the mother isn't rejecting the calf there is a good chance of survival. Thanks for the update sweet friend. (Hugs)Indigo

lol....I just read your comment on my blog. I was falling asleep as I was writing that post. I must have been wondering if those were tiny horses or mules in my picture. We say there's more than one way to skin a cat, too. lol Where did that come from????? Maybe it's my sometimers kicking in! You made me laugh with your comment....thanks for noticing that I said mule. No one else did. :)

Now, I just read your post. It made me cry. You are kind hearted like me. I couldn't send that little fellow to auction either. I hope John will keep him and give him a chance....such a heart warming story.

This is indeed a heartwarming story. It's good to know that Mama and Baby are united. I hope the calf doesn't go to auction.
