A Gals Gotta Do What A Gals Gotta Do

Even if she is a  gal cow. She has to graze and go for water to keep her energy up. It's hard work drinking gallons of water and then walk around carrying all that plus the bag with the milk for the baby. She has to hunt for the choice green grass and if she is spoiled like Josie's Mama she has to follow the truck around until John gives her a hand out of cubes. So saying this, Mama has to leave her calf at times so she can tend to her business. Sooo she has been leaving Josie after she feeds her in a remote place. Probably where she feels Josie is safe until she comes back. Two days we couldn't find Josie. We knew she was okay because the Mama had been nursed. Yesterday it was the same story, no Josie. When we gave up and started home we drive along the property for several miles on the Farm to Market road. John spotted Josie under a tree along the fence line. Good to be in the shade in this heat we are starting to have but so near the fence could not be good if a dishonest person spotted her there alone. She is so tame a person like that could take her and disappear with her. Sooo we've made a decision. Everytime we find her all alone we are going to load her in the back of the pick-up and John will sit with her while I drive up near the house. There will be green grass and water there. If we do that often enough maybe she or her Mama or both will get the idea that is a good place for her to wait for her Mama. Plus the renter kids may pet her and make friends with her. What do you think?

Sounds like a plan. Hope it works out.

I think that's a good idea.

Sounds like a lot of work, but a workable plan. I imagine you guys are used to that though, with that many cows.
Glad Josie is okay. It is interesting to hear of your trips to the 'Ranch'. Always enjoy the tales here.

Being an animal lover such as you and I, I can understand the need to try to keep them together. Josie must wander around a lot, but as you said she thought she was in a safe place under a shade tree.

To be honest - I don't know - so I think it sounds like a great idea. sandie

I think you are angels! That's what I think. Just the most remarkable people! The world is a better place because of people like you.
