Hot August In South Texas
There is a saying that goes something like the fire plugs are begging the dogs. That is how hot it is here. The only breath of air you can inhale is before nine in the morning. It's even too hot to work after the sun goes down. We try to go to the ranch as early as we can and get home as soon as we can. There are no critters to be seen most mornings. They are smart enough to stay back in the brush in the shade. As we were driving around checking everything one roadrunner ran out of the cactus took one look at us and ran back in. One egret watched me feed the turtles from afar. Guess it would have taken too much energy to flap those large wings and fly away. Even the tenants in the farm house stay behind closed doors with foil on their windows to keep the sun out. The Mr. is the only one who comes out and that is probably because he comes out to smoke a cigarette on the porch. Too hot for our trips down country roads so I've posted old pictures of country roads. We are still here just waiting and looking forward to fall.
