What Would You Do If You Owned This House???

Destroy it, burn it? Not me, I would leave the old boards alone and just replace when they had to be. Leave the rusty old roof. You can see a bit of the porch in the front. I would have it repaired, put two rockers on it and hang bird feeders in the trees in front. I would sit and rock, think and ponder. Maybe have a little snack and something cold to drink and ponder some more, soak up the peace and quiet and thank God for all the things he has done for me. This  house is on some acreage John bought several years ago. He probably owned it less then a year and had a chance to double his money. He didn't like the fact it had ticks on it plus the surrounding owners were installing high fences. Not to matter the deer couldn't come in, we don't hunt anyway. They couldn't stop the birds and turkeys. We could have walked only in the roads and trails and wore dog flea collars around our ankles. If it was worth so much then it should be worth even more in a few years. It already has a small pond near the house and he had a very large one dug far from the house in a place where water would run in when a big rain came. It is only about an hour from where we live and has all good roads until you get to the property. We could have fixed that or not gone out there in bad weather. After all it would only be a "get away" place to go to without much hassle. I think John regrets now not keeping it but he will probably never have another opportunity of that kind. What would you do with this old house?

I would have kept it and fixed it up.

As I read your post, I thought well maybe...I guess one would need two things in order to make this work...vision and money. Since I lack the latter, I think I would probably end up selling it.

i can understand him selling it. when you've got livestock you're raising and selling, your own home to tend to, a good return on an investment doesn't always come along. i'd have probably done it, too.

It all depends on finances, whether I had them or not.

It has character and personality. Definitely a fixer upper...

I probably would have done like John, but it looks like maybe a little cleaning up around it would be a good place to hangout. Love it. Jean

Now here, I AM WITH YOU, but I would go further and do the inside modern and leave the outside as is. Oh yeah, I would love to have this one.

Ohhh what memories those old boards have stored. It just stands there as life goes on. NEVER WOULD i RAZE OR BURN THAT JEWEL.
Love from a HOT Florida...89 on our window....

If I couldn't save ~ I'd salvage it for sure for the lumber. Can you imagine how many birdhouses I could make out of those buildings! It's so disheartening to see old farmsteads die.

In all honesty, I would love the boards...but not save the house. I'd use the boards to build a wonderful aged/cured wood deck of style and beauty!!

People are looking for old wood
like this to frame art. This
wood makes good looking frames.
From what I hear that wood is not
easy to find for sale.

It does have character.
