A Fourth Of July Right Down Our Alley

We left early for the next town over where a big July 4th Celebration was on tap. We like to stick our toes in but not all the way. A very big crowd and lots of traffic so we took our favorite parking space at Dairy Queen so we could watch but not interfere with customers. We thought it fitting to buy something since we were going to have free parking and a good view. We had our crispy tacos and root beer then struck up a conversation with the couple at the table next to us. Turns out they have hunted wild hogs and we have trapped them so there were lots of hog tales all around until time to watch the fireworks display. They left and we went out to let the tail gate down as a man drove up beside us. He said I was going to eat but I think you have the right idea so think I will watch too. He stayed with us the entire time and told how he is in business of building fences on the large ranches here in south Texas. His Dad came over from Mexico years ago and got his papers and married his Mom. He told us how his Mom always wore a dress and burned pear for cows while his Dad was working on a ranch as a farm laborer. Lots of in common conversation here too. We wouldn't have met him but for the fact his wife and kids had gone to San Antonio to a movie and he came down to Dairy Queen to get a bite to eat. Yes that's the way John and I like it just on the fringe of the excitement but not in the crowd of traffic. Meeting people who have something in common with us and watching the beautiful fireworks.

I prefer to be off to the side of any richly textured portrait crowd as well. The theatrically irresistible center is quite resistible to me. Great day.

Oh but to have a choice!! Here we are afraid to leave plus it is a mess if you get near a place where there is anything going on. So we stay home and make sure there are no fires on our property.

What a sweet/ mellow post. Nice to meet folks with things in common and also just to meet interesting folk.
The world if full of good apples and it is nice to run into some of them.

Funny, we like things about the same way. NOT IN the MIDDLE!

Our Dairy Queen was closed on the fourth. How nice yours wasn't and that you got to meet a new acquaintance.
