Guess Who Was Elected?
No not to public office but to climb a ladder to the the top of the house. Not such a large feat you say. It is when you are afraid of anything higher then a step ladder to change a light bulb. I thought of this event in my life when I read about Mel's (Up North With Mel) septic system problem. My Mel had a bad stroke at age 45. He was on his third different hospital stay. He was allowed to come home on week-end days but not to spend the night because of some insurance rule. Joy of joy our sewer took this time to back up into the bathtub. Oh just call a plumber you say? Not with a man who has always been able to take care of any problem. He explained in detail what needed to be done that just might work. Me climb that ladder to the top? Either me or he said he would do it. This man was recovering from a bad stroke and was in his PJs visiting home from the hospital. What if he falls, what if. I take a deep breath and start up slowly with the snake (flexible rod) on my shoulder. When I got to the top I just could not take that step over onto the house so I stretched and I stretched and was able to get the rod started down the vent pipe. With a lot of up and down motion and prayers I slowly backed down pulling the snake behind me. I went in to run water into the bathtub and that gurggling sound was the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. I think a bird had started a nest in the vent and it wasn't getting any air. No more problems. Mel got better and lived about eight more years.
