Guess Who Was Elected?

No not to public office but to climb a ladder to the the top of the house. Not such a large feat you say. It is when you are afraid of anything higher then a step ladder to change a light bulb. I thought of this event in my life when I read about Mel's (Up North With Mel) septic system problem. My Mel had a bad stroke at age 45. He was on his third different hospital stay. He was allowed to come home on week-end days but not to spend the night because of some insurance rule. Joy of joy our sewer took this time to back up into the bathtub. Oh just call a plumber you say? Not with a man who has always been able to take care of any problem. He explained in detail what needed to be done that just might work. Me climb that ladder to the top? Either me or he said he would do it. This man was recovering from a bad stroke and was in his PJs visiting home from the hospital. What if he falls, what if. I take a deep breath and start up slowly with the snake (flexible rod) on my shoulder. When I got to the top I just could not take that step over onto the house so I stretched and I stretched and was able to get the rod started down the vent pipe. With a lot of up and down motion and prayers I slowly backed down pulling the snake behind me. I went in to run water into the bathtub and that gurggling sound was the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. I think a bird had started a nest in the vent and it wasn't getting any air. No more problems. Mel got better and lived about eight more years.

i'm with you - climbing a ladder is not a problem for me - it's the step off and back on again from it...

You do what you have to do in times of trouble and muster the courage to get it done. Been on the roof many a time here. I painted the chimney and put bricks that fell off back in place. But my climbing days are over now with these bad knees. Glad you went on to have 8 more years together.

I'm so glad you didn't have to take that step to the roof! I couldn't have done it either!

I have been on top of a house but that was many years ago. I know I couldn't do it now. That was young for Mel to have strokes.Glad that you were blessed with several more years.

ATTA BOY GIRL, yeah I would picture you doing that. I am always amazed at how alike Mel and I are/were. I know it, and I am sure he knew it, we can do a lot of different things, but there is times when you need help.

Like running the wife up a ladder! LOL Yep, once Sherry climbed to the roof peak and slid roofing shingles down to me one at a time, during a time when I had hurt my hand.

Love you adventurous girls.
(Memories are fun, especially later when they are only memories!)

I will be honest, I could not climb over to rungs off the ground. I can not stand heights at all. You were brave. Amazing what we can do when you think you can't.

OK so we have something in common...I have not been on a ladder for a while...but...I would not want to go either, unless it was the only way to get the tub empty. Smooth running plumbing is my friend..Our FRIEND! I've been elected before. yuggh. Brave one.
